About Dr Richard Steele
Following a bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology and a Higher Diploma in Education (University of Cape Town 1979), I worked in a variety of educational and training settings in South Africa and internationally in the field of justice, peace, and conflict resolution. I qualified as a homeopath in 1999 with a Master’s degree from the Department of Homeopathy, Durban University of Technology (DUT) and have worked as a lecturer and Master’s supervisor as well as being a private practitioner. I am registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa and am an active member of the Homeopathic Association of South Africa. My homeopathic practice is informed by my extensive life experience, and my ongoing interest in biology, neuroscience, spirituality, natural medicine, human relations, peace, ecology and the natural world in general.
All my appointments (new and follow-up) are one hour. In the appointment, I will ask many questions to be able to understand the detail of the main complaint, but also the historical, lifestyle, social, mental and emotional context to the extent that this will be useful. After having listened carefully, and conducted the relevant physical examinations, I will spend a few moments on my own analysing the case and choosing a homeopathic medicine which matches the individual picture of your case, which will stimulate your own powers of self-regulation, self-repair and self-healing. I will sometimes also choose a herbal complex in order to work more directly on the symptoms of the disease, providing relief from those symptoms and supporting the optimal functioning of the immune system, organ systems, and nervous system. I dispense what I prescribe so that you can start taking the medicine straight away. I always offer nutritional and lifestyle advice. I regard myself as a complimentary practitioner and will request blood tests, x-rays and ultrasound tests as necessary and refer to medical specialists as necessary.
